Auto Engineering Reviews — What German Car Owners in Lexington Say About Us

Every review below comes straight from our Google Business Profile, posted by real Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and Volkswagen owners who had their cars serviced at Auto Engineering, 436 Marrett Road in Lexington, MA. We do not edit them, filter them, or pick favorites. The list updates automatically as new reviews come in, so what you see here is the same thing you would find on Google.
Most of these customers found us the same way you probably did: looking for an independent alternative to the dealership that knows German cars inside and out, and that will tell them straight what their car needs and what it does not. The reviews tend to mention the same things again and again, including talking directly to the technician who worked on the car, honest pricing, and loaner cars when a repair takes longer than a coffee.

One of, if not the absolute best spot to bring your Audi in MA or the New England area. My Dad and I trust them to the fullest in taking care of our cars. He has an Rs5 and I have an Rs3. They are quick and efficient and highly knowledgeable with RS model Audi’s. Do not hesitate to bring your car here if you want the best possible service.

I was referred here to replace my brakes. The pricing is fair and much lower than the dealership. Every staff member I encountered was polite and carried themselves like true gentlemen. They even ordered me lunch while I waited for my car service to be completed! I absolutely recommend this mechanic shop to anyone in need of reliable service. Thank you, guys—you are all wonderful!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. +0I got some work done at Auto Engineering this past fall. Shaun, Emil and the rest of the guys at Auto Engineering are extremely friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable. Yes, they are on the pricier side, but money spent there is well worthwhile.

You will not regret it!

Dylan and crew are outstanding mechanics that can perform routine service such as oil change through complex engine replacement and everything in between. If you want total satisfaction and know who your mechanic’s name every time you have your service performed, there are nobody better than Auto Engineering. I can HIGHLY recommend if you are in the Lexington MA area and I know customers travels from long distances to have their cars looked after by them too.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. +6No where else around touches AE… it’s the nicest shop, newest and best equipment, best techs, and they have awesome customer service. It’s nice to have a place where you get what you pay for, especially having dealt with dealerships in the past.

The only place I trust in Massachusetts to work on cars. They literally just had my ‘22 911 on the lift the other day with less than 25 miles on it to mount snow tires with the specialty tools required… these are the only guys I would trust. Flawless work on my 992, 991 GT3RS and 981 Cayman S also. Rick, the owner, is a true car guy and Porsche fanatic (even though we know he loves his Audi’s too). I proudly rock their plate frame on my vehicles.

5/5 stars, we’re lucky to have AE around.

Auto Engineering is the number one automotive shop hands down. I own an e46 M3 and they've done my rod bearings, VANOS bulletproofing, control arms, drive shaft after another shop COMPLETELY messed up the center support bearing replacement, the list continues. Done right the first time, no questions asked. Ask for Emil Rhodin, he's their BMW Master Tech there and has been in the business for over a decade. The guys over there are great dudes that really know their ins and outs of Audi's, Porsche's, Volkswagen's and of course BMW's. I love just chatting cars with them as well, they're all enthusiasts, which to me is also really important to consider they're treating my car like their own. So many shops I've gone to before treat my car like it is: not theirs. And I can't stand that. These guys treat my car like I would and that goes a LONG way with me. I can't recommend them enough. 😃👍

Excellent spot for all your BMW, Audi, Porsche, Mercedes, VW, and other euro car brand needs. The staff here is super friendly and they do excellent quality work. Not only are they extremely knowledgeable about the cars they work on, they actually care too! All the staff here are true car enthusiasts and that is reflected by the other non maintenance and repair services they offer such as apr tunes and other performance upgrades. I’ve had nothing but great experiences here and I highly recommended this place!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. +0Got me in same day (within an hour!) for a tune. Even gave good free advice when I noted I was going to do my own brake job this weekend. Didn't try to upsell me on doing the work there. Also heard them tell another customer not to spend money on fixing a minor oil leak as it hadn't gotten worse since the last visit.

All around thumbs up. Will definitely bring my car back for future work. Oh, and the two r8s and the built 337 GTI in the waiting room didn't hurt either!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. As a car enthusiast who likes to do most of the wrenching on his pride and joy, I'm very particular about who I trust to touch my car. When there is a job I don't want to tackle myself, these are the ONLY guys I trust. Everyone here is a car enthusiast and will treat your car like their own. It is apparent immediately even just by the way they maintain their beautiful facility. Emil always does such an amazing job on my F30, and his passion shines through in his work. He always goes above and beyond and makes sure it's fixed right the first time, everytime. Rick & Shaun are always an absolute pleasure to deal with as well. Upfront, honest, fair, professional - exceptional. That's the service you can expect to receive here. Whether it's your pride & joy or just your daily driver, if it's German, this is where you want to go to have it repaired or upgraded. Auto Engineering is absolutely the best in the business.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The price was higher than what was verbally agreed during the time of booking. The owner immediately realized there was some discrepancies in the invoice and refunded the difference. I would say since they put efforts to find the issue and resolved it immediately , their customer service is great. I am really pleased with the follow up and willingness to help.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have been working with Auto Engineering for many years and have always had a positive experience. The Techs take great care of both my Mercedes vehicles. On one service I had at some point dropped a $100 bill in my vehicle and when I picked up the vehicle it was returned to me. Doesn’t get more honest than that.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. These guys are absolute pros. Rick and his techs know German cars inside and out. I brought my 2016 AMG GT S in for a unique job, and they were able to get it done successfully and without hesitation. The cherry on top was having a professional detailer on staff. My AMG looked absolutely pristine when I picked it up.

Overall, just a great, friendly group of guys who clearly take pride in what they do. If you own a German car, I couldn’t recommend them enough!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I use Auto Engineering to service my E350 wagon and Z4 roadster. They have techs specific to each German car brand. They know their stuff. Owning a German car can require specialized tools and knowledge, so the fact that only the tech knowing the brand works on that brand is important. They've given me some advice on things I can do on my own, as I try my hand here and there on some DIY which I also appreciate.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Quick drop-off (check-in, etc.), clean shop, friendly service, easy loaner rental, and reasonable prices without surprises for routine maintenance and suspension repairs on a 5 year old BMW with 80k miles. I had a fairly significant amount of work scheduled and it was all completed within one day.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My Audi was running low on its special engine coolant, so I stopped by Auto Engineering to buy some. Shaun came outside, topped up the reservoir, and then gave me the remainder of the container. Shaun and Auto Engineering are wonderful!

From hardcore performance upgrades to routine maintenance on our daily drivers, they are honest, knowledgeable and professional. Rick's flexibility with car drop and pickup is convenient! Fair pricing and you pay for what you get. If you love your German car. Bring it here !

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. As a former diehard VW Audi enthusiast who had been away from the scene for a decade this is the only place I would bring my new to me turbo blue S5. They have handled everything from post purchase inspection to getting all service up to par to the level this car should have been maintained since new. I am extremely picky with who touches my vehicles and there is no one else but Auto Engineering. They handled all of my requests and even helped me fix a broken license plate holder from the dealer I bought it from - sometimes it's the little things! Rick and team go above and beyond. A++ Looking forward to doing some performance mods soon- and more!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. From the moment I walked in and was greeted by Rick and Shaun I knew I found the right place to service my 2021 BMW M2 Comp. The overall experience was best in class. Any German engineered ride will be in great hands at Auto Engineering in Lexington.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. "If you own a VW and are looking for a shop that actually knows these platforms, look no further than Auto Engineering. I recently brought my 2019 Golf R in for a Stage 1 tune, and the transformation is incredible—the car feels like it should have come this way from the factory. More importantly, the install was flawless with zero issues or gremlins afterward. It’s a relief to find a shop that is just as capable with high-end performance upgrades as they are with routine maintenance. Highly recommended for anyone who cares about their car."

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. AE is only shop you should be taking your German car to in the area. Whether you’re an enthusiast or someone who wants a reliable shop to help you maintain your Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche, BMW, or Mercedes. Auto engineering is your one stop shop. From regular maintenance to complete engine overhauls or even performance/track day repairs or prep, Rick and his team will get you the right person, the best components, and the best results at a price that will make the stealership service departments obsolete.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Always a professional job with timely communication. I was due to pick up my car on a weekend (when they're closed) and some things got lost in translation and my car was still inside, up on a lift. Fortunately, a very nice man named Jim, who was cleaning, let me in and offered me snacks/drinks, and let me relax while he contacted Rick. It could have gone worse for me but I'm thankful Jim was there and showed such warm hospitality!! As someone who works in the hospitality industry, it was nice to see and really changed my mood. Highly recommend if you care about your German car and the work that gets done on it!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I knew the clutch on my GTI was starting to go so this past Friday I called around to a few different places to get quotes on what it would look like. Out of the few places I called (including 2 VW dealerships), Auto Engineering was the only place that not only gave me an exact quote, but they gave me a recommendation for what type of clutch I should get given the circumstances.

On Monday I took it in to Auto Engineering. After being initially told it would be done by the end of the week, the team ended up getting it done by Wednesday! I couldn’t be more happy with the decision to take my car to them as they were quick and extremely knowledgeable throughout the whole process. They even washed my car before handing me back the keys!

I will absolutely be back for any services my GTI will need in the future!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Five stars all around.. I purchased a used BMW. I called Auto Engineering to ask what I should do for maintenance based on the current miles and the service history.
Very knowledgeable fair prices and didn’t try to recommend work not needed.
The work was completed on time and exactly at what the quote indicated.
They used all quality parts and fluids!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I call the guys here at Auto Engineering the 'Golden Gods'. This shop is a true, rare find. I reached out on a Friday am to get my Porsche warning message evaluated that popped up Thursday night.
I was scheduled to drive at Palmer Motor Sport Track over Sat/Sun weekend. Shaun, Tony and team were able to identify the issue, resolve the error and I was on the track Saturday am ready to drive!
Not only did they identify the root cause, they did additional research on racing the 991.1, to find out that I needed clamps to ensure the issue would not reappear on the track. They go the extra mile and they got the job done.
The team here are top notch professionals and human beings. This will now be my go to shop for both my Porsches, so glad I found them. So grateful to you all, thanks again!

I couldn't recommend a better german auto shop! Auto Engineering is the best in the game.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Auto Engineering is the only place that I’ll bring my German car to. They do great work, are clearly knowledgeable (I’d argue their Porsche tech Tony is more knowledgeable than most dealership mechanics, he was able to diagnose and repair multiple issues the dealer couldn’t reproduce or claimed were normal) and are reasonably priced.

They did both preventative maintenance and unexpected repairs for my aging Cayenne and didn’t treat me like any less of a customer than the people bringing in cars worth many multiples what mine is. Everything was done on time, and they always let me know anything else they saw that needed addressing but never in an alarmist way, suggesting certain things that could wait until the next oil change, etc..

I’m actually a little disappointed I’m replacing my current car with a Non-European brand, but I’ll be sure to be back if and when I have another German car that needs service.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great shop!!! Highly recommended. I will be returning for more work and regular maintenance in 2025.

I had the following done in 2024 by this shop:

-initial oil change at 3k miles
-Side mirror color match and repair from a collision
-Installation APR intake
-Installation Milltek high-flow downpipe
-Installation of APR intercooler
-Installation of APR rear sway bar and dogbone mount
-Installation of Garrett turbo
-APR engine tune
-Wheel alignment

Work was done promptly, car was washed and cleaned upon return, good price, and great customer service. My car continues to drive very well after all modifications.

The workshop is also beautiful. If you like performance German autos, then don't miss out!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. First visit / first impression.

I’ve recently moved to the area and decided to give these guys some investigation to be by truly trusted advisor for my 22 year old BMW and I couldn’t be happier with the initial appointment.

I brought it in for an airbag light and ask them to go over the car thoroughly with a fine tooth comb. Emil was the tech and Was just outstanding both in personality instill in confidence, And seemed honest with the conversation we had. Obviously, the car is old and has a number of issues, but we discussed orders of priorities and potential problems if some items were left alone. He did not try anything but simply “acting as my advisor”.

I could not be happier and will get service done. Had to get a quote on a part from BMW directly so I could not book my next service appointment, but it will happen immediately.

Finding a good local trusted partner in the maintenance. My car is important and I think I found the winning team.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Rick and the team at AE have been super knowledgeable and helpful during my time with them servicing an '08 Audi R8. I can't think of a better group to have as a resource in the Boston area. Would highly recommend working with them, especially for any tricky problems or higher end vehicles, but I know they do a great job with standard maintenance and your daily driver as well!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have been bringing my cars to AutoEngineering for years both for regular maintenance and performance tuning. The AE team meets expectations on all levels. Everybody demonstrates professionalism, expertise, passion for the craft, kindness, humor, honesty and quality. Moreover, the AE team is accommodating when making appointments.

When you walk into the shop, you will feel the Adrenaline rush through your veins as you get surrounded by the Audi R8s and RSes in the waiting area. You will also get intoxicated by the [lovely] sounds of German cars going in and out of the shop all day long.

AE is a true gem in the greater Boston area. Huge shoutout to everyone on the team.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Auto engineering is a top notch shop with wonderful employees. I had a clutch install that turned into chasing some gremlins from a previous owner. Throughout the entire process communication was incredible and they were able to help sort out plenty of issues. Shaun was a wonder to work with and was incredibly patient as things progressed. I won't trust another shop in the future!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Set up an appointment with them and had to bail on it, but Auto Engineering already ordered parts for me. They ate the $170 fee for me without question and were very helpful with my questions. Will definitely go here next time I need my car worked on.

Updating again after 1.5 years or so, my S3 has been worked on by Auto Engineering 3-4x in that time for oil changes and the larger 40K mile service.

Knowing this shop is near by is the reason I feel comfortable owning a used Audi in Boston. The team is awesome and I'm always happy to pay what they charge as it's always more than reasonable. Can't say the same for any dealer I've been to.

From booking the appointment to having the service done, it was a great experience. Shaun was extremely helpful and professional. All I was having done was a programming of my daughters A4 brake module and when I went to pick it up I noticed it was washed and the interior was vacuumed! Top notch shop, amazing customer service in a timely manner and very reasonable. I highly recommend Auto Engineering.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The best around! Professional, timely, meticulous, folks over at Auto Engineering are seriously the gurus of german vehicles. If your beloved car is requiring some love and care, bring it here. Had them perform a serious laundry list of maintenance to my S3 and not only was it performed in a single day, but they included a loaner and washed/detailed my car without mention. Can't wait for the next time!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. A+ customer service and very trustworthy. Came in fully expecting to pay for a service, but instead of just taking my money (which I happily would have given to them), they explained that I didn't need to do what I came in to have done and recommended that I didn't bother.

Will definitely recommend them to friends/family and come back in the future for other work!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Rick and team are top notch. I've had them do a few different jobs and had exemplary service. For example, I had a split boot on an axle, and they replaced with an OEM aftermarket part, which was causing some issues, and they replaced it with 0 hassles 6 months later. That replacement then failed, which they then replaced with an OE part from the manufacturer again with no labor charges, only the cost difference of the OE part. Now she's running smooth! I'll be back when any of my German cars need service.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent service! AE completed the work on time, as promised, and within the cost estimate. AE runs a clean shop with knowledgable techs. I debated trading in my 2011 S5 based on advice from a few other shops, but after a thorough evaluation by Dylan at AE, I decided to keep it. Dylan & the team at AE took time out of their day to explain the work required, and the expected life span of various other parts of the car. They provided pics of the work in progress, and answered follow up questions. The performance of my S5 improved immensely after a carbon cleaning, belt change, etc. AE came highly recommended from coworkers with much nicer cars than mine, yet AE gave my 10+ year-old car the detailed attention it needed, and it runs like new. Highly recommend AE!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I read about Auto Engineering on one of the VW Tiguan forums and they came highly recommended. And I can say now that the information is accurate! I've had performance enhancements made to my Tiguan and couldn't be happier (APR stage 1, APR catback exhaust, Unitronic intercooler & carbon fiber intake and turbo inlet, wheel spacers), not only with the functionality of the car, but their workmanship, knowledge and attention to detail are top notch. Best thing is being able to speak with the mechanic who actually works on your car. My guy is Dylan! And you can tell that he loves what he does. These guys rock!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The team at Auto Engineering did a great job repairing a copper ground for a coil pack on my 2015 Volkswagen Golf 1.8 TSI. They also gave me back the old spark plugs, to prove they did the job I asked for correctly. Also, they were quite flexible with their schedule to ensure my car could be repaired in a timely manner. Finally, I appreciate their recommendations of work that needs to be done in the future, with quoted prices. I highly recommend them to anyone with a German car.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Had a APR stage one tune, intake, and new clutch done on my VW GTI MK7. These guys are incredible. Customer service was exceptional, they went out of their way to answer questions, and help me understand how my car works/ what it needs/ what it doesn't need. They did the absolute most - above and beyond. Clearly cared about helping me rather than lining their pockets - which can be rare in the car industry. Can't imagine going anywhere else in the future. Honestly have never left a review anywhere before, but felt I needed to for Auto Engineering. They really made me feel confident and happy about the money I spent - worth every penny.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I'd thought it impossible to find a shop that offered the knowledge of an Audi dealership but pricing that didn't make trading in for a new model more attractive a prospect. The guys kept me updated throughout the process, and were patient with me as I fumbled through explaining what I'd been told by other shops/Internet forums. Received my car back yesterday after replacing several components of the suspension. I can honestly say in the 40,000 miles I've driven the car; I didn't know it could ride this smooth.

If you fawn over you vehicle as I do, and want to eliminate the guess work, the uncertainty, and the high repair bills, then give Shaun and the gang a call for you next auto service need. You too will become a lifetime advocate and start enjoying your revitalized car again.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. If you own a german car, this is the place to take it. Rick and his techs will take great care of your car as they have mine. The previous owner of my car brought it to them for 17 years and I am continuing that legacy. I own a 2001 Audi S4 and anyone familiar with them knows how many problems they can have. My car has 170k miles and has only shown the normal signs of wear. It is safe to say that AE is consistent, timely and very helpful when it comes to taking care of your german cars. Rick and his staff are also very knowledgeable which I greatly appreciate :)

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Thank you everyone at AE! I am so so happy and finally at ease with the thought of servicing my
2008 Porsche 911 Targa 4S locally. You save me so much, not just material money but the peace of mind that I’m being treated properly and my vehicle is getting the best care and service. You treat my Porsche as if it were your own, I really love that. Keep up the great work! 🙌

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Brought my 2012 VW EOS in for 70K service. Very professional group, organized, friendly and service completed as quoted. Reasonable pricing as well. Called them a week later as I picked up a piece of steel in my tire. They said bring it right in - they swapped out the spare, ordered the tire and replaced in in two days. I worked with Emil - he did a fabulous job on both. Nice to have a group that is professional, friendly, does great work that I can trust! Thanks guys!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. This was my first time here on 4/11/2019. Super clean shop and waiting area. I came here all the way from Portsmouth, NH for an alignment after installing air ride on my 09 335xi. I was in and out pretty quick and the new alignment specs are PERFECT! I was extremely satisfied with the results and would recommend this shop to others. I would definitely come back in the future!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Brought my x5 to them which I thought was toast and they had it up and running excellent by the end of the day. Better customer service from them than at the BMW dealership. Very pleased with the way everything turned out. Highly recommend.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I truly enjoy the driving experience in my 2007 Audi S4 Avant. It has been regularly maintained, improved and modified over the last 4+ years by Rick and Sean at Auto Engineering in Lexington, MA. A great car has evolved to be even better thanks to them. They are the gold standard in German car care and customer service.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. If you own a performance Audi, or any German vehicle for that matter, Just go here. You will not be disappointed. Any negative review on here is either from previous ownership or previous technicians. The new owner of this shop is an absolute enthusiast and doesn't see these cars as money makers. He wants his customers to be 100% satisfied and is willing to answer any questions you may have. This place is the real deal and there is a reason why people will drive hours to get their car serviced here. Simple as that.

Do not go to a dealership. There is no passion and it costs far more. If you want to be in an environment where the techs eat sleep and breath German engineering, AE is your place.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Rick and the group are top notch. I have numerous choices to bring my car that are closer including dealers. I choose to drive and hour to have Rick work on my car even for just oil changes. Why? Because he treats my car like it is his own and his knowledge is far beyond any other tech I have worked with. He goes above and beyond. The few times I took my car to the dealer for warranty work he looked it over and found mistakes made by the dealer.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. What a great sense of community! I was stuck in need of a timely jump-start of my car; without hesitation Sean swung by in his car and helped me get it started. Roadside assistance is not something they do normally, but he sensed the urgency and helped out asking nothing in return. If this is the type thoughtfulness and caring they provide to total strangers, I am sure they provide fantastic service to their customers. Thank You!!!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent experience! Will definitely continue to service my BMW here. Service is seamless, got a free loaner which was actually a really nice VW. They diagnosed my car quickly, the prices parts and labor were very reasonable too! Wish I had known about Auto Engineering years ago.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Brought my brand new BMW in for some fine tuning which was unavailable at the dealership. Found every aspect of doing business with these people to be excellent. Made an appointment which they kept and took me in on time; found the waiting area to be clean and comfortable and was able to meet my service tech (Nelson) in person who answered all of my questions. Price was on par with anywhere else I may have gone, too. Highly recommend this company for service!
